Ever since entry to all national parks became free of charge (Jan. 1, 2007), major
residential complex construction projects around Bukhansan Mountain and heightened
health awareness among the public have increased the number of hikers dramatically,
exposing the once untouched mountain to contamination. Preventative actions are
overdue to protect the higher parts of the mountain where most natural resources
are concentrated. Our project's objective is to disperse traffic to the lower areas of
the mountain and to open channels for the disadvantaged such as children,
handicapped, and senior citizens to enjoy nature under the theme of “a path
where history, culture, nature, and humans come together in harmony.”
We also anticipatedpopular public demand for hiking trails in and around
such areas as Jirisan Sup-gil (Jirisan Mountain Forest Trail), Jejudo’s
Olle-gil (Jejudo Island Olle-gil Trail), and Byeonsan Masil-gil (Byeonsan
Mountain\Masil-gil Trail), among others. Our project is in step with this
popular trend. To attract hikers to national parks, we have made a trail
that spans across the foot of Bukhansan Mountain and named it
Dulle-gil, and opened the Bukhansan Mountain section (connected to
Seoul) this August 2010.
